CC-E-0096.T.jpg

A photo-processed reproducted image of a ship portrait of the schooner yacht "Wildfire" owned by P. Thynne, Esq. The "Wildfire" was an example of the revolution in yacht designing and canvassing where the bows of existing cutters were lengthened. "Wildfire" was converted from a cutter into a schooner. The first match of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club in 1858 intended for schooners did not fill because of the entry of "Wildfire." Other schooner owners protested that "Wildfire" had all of the advantages of a cutter in the guise of a schooner.
