A port-broadside view of the missionary packet 'Morning Star' as it passes Boston Light. She was built to serve a need for a dependable packet that travelled to and from the Marquesas and Micronesia to deliver supplies and communication to missionaries stationed in remote islands. Funds to build the ship came through a proposal that invited the children of the United States to take ten-cent shares of join ownership in the missionary vessel. 'Morning Star' launched successfully with enough funds for extra maintenance on November 12, 1856. In the print, she sails with all sails set and has a swallowtail pennant with "Morning Star" on it on the foremast and the US flag at the mainmast. Boston Light is in the background on the right side of the print.
