An original watercolor and ink drawing of a three-quarter, starboard side view of an ornately gilded stern. A handwritten note on the verso indicates that this sailing vessel is a Hamburg frigate from around 1775. At the top are three, hexagonal poop-lanterns. Underneath, in the tafferel, is a coat of arms of the city of Hamburg (a red and white escutcheon of a castle flanked by two golden lions). The gallery has two rows of windows, and pilasters separate each individual window within the row. Foliage, sea nymphs, putti heads, and a ribbon banner add additional flourishes. Open gun-ports are visible on the port side.
