CC-F-0090.T.jpg

A black and white etching of three ships. The 44-gun frigate in the center, visible from the starboard side, scuds in a gale. Her foresail and maintopsail billow forward. There are minimal depictions of the context or setting. Thin, simple lines indicate the presence of rough waters, and only the ships are naturalistically shaded to indicate depth.

This print is illustration No. 4 from 'Six Engraved Outlines of Ships of War from a First-rate to a Cutter' (London: N. Pocock, 1815) by Nicholas Pocock.
