A view of the yacht 'Kestrel,' owned by the Earl of Yarborough, founder and Commodore of the Royal Yacht Squadron, on open water with two small rowing boats on either side. During his time as Commodore, cruising and yachting flourished and the club grew in reputation and numbers. In the early 1840s she was a well-known ship. She was rigged as a Hermaphrodite brig -- brig-rigged on her foremast but schooner rigged on her main. She also carried guns.
