"U. S. Steam Frigate Niagara. Modeled by George Steers, built at the Navy Yard Brooklyn, N. Y.
Carries twelve Dahlgren guns weighing 14 tons each 11 inches diameter in the bore throwing a solid shot of 270 lbs or a shell of 180 lbs at a distance of four miles. Particiapted in the first attempt to lay a transatlantic cable in 1858 along with naval vessels from Britain.
