Dated 1813 hand colored aquatint (a method of etching a printing plate so that tones similar to watercolor washes can be reproduced) of a whaling scene, drawn by John Heaviside Clark (1770-1863) and engraved by Matthew Dubourg. This plate entitled: "Boats Approaching A Whale." Great scene with lots of ships and sailors. It is taken from "Foreign Field Sports, Fisheries, Sporting Anecdotes &c.&c." published by Edward Orme, London 1814. This is plate II of 4 whaling prints included in the book and the hand coloring is original to the 1814 publication. Print appears mint, frame has a few minor scratches. Not examined out of the frame.
