AF-LX-1147.T.jpg

Monochrome engraving of Perseus and Andromeda. Andromeda is chained to a rock at the center of the composition and is nude but for some drapery. Below her, in the lower right corner, is a bearded man, a young boy, and a nude woman with her back to the viewer resting on a vase which is spilling water; the three of them are watching Perseus, who is flying down at the top left of the image, and stabbing the sea monster through its mouth. The monster has both a long, coiling, serpentine tail and a pair of very short wings. In the bottom right is the artist attribution.
Below the image is a caption.
The image and the caption were engraved on different blocks, as is evident from the impression lines.
