The Down Easter clipper 'William R. Grace' docked with all her sails furled. The photograph is taken from on a parallel dock; a portion of the dock from which the photographer stands is visible on the bottom. A manuscript inscription from the collector, Arthur H. Clark, notes that he was once a passenger aboard the vessel. The 'William R. Grace' was wrecked off the Capes of Delaware in September 1889.
