A half-tone print showing the crew of the 'Vanessa' hard at work trying to draw up to anchor the boat. Speculated to be an illustration from a newspaper from the 1870s, the intimate and first-person perspective of the crew is striking. A seaman tugs at a rope with his left foot braced against the hull of the boat while staring directly at the viewer. Another man on the left side of the print braces his hands against a window hatch staring at something behind the viewer. The rest of the four men tug on one line in the back. The artist includes every detail of the men's clothes and the boat's rig.
