A colored lithograph depicting the renowned cutter yacht 'Surprise' winning her second Grand Challenge Cup. A dressed boat flying the Royal Mersey Yacht Club flag stands for the finish line. A steamboat full of passengers on the right cheer for victory of 'Surprise.' In the background on the left is the recognizable tower of Our Lady and Saint Nicholas Church of England. The yacht 'Cymba,' identified by the manuscript inscription below the image, follows close behind in second place. In the 1856 racing season, the 'Surprise' was the second most decorated prizewinner, with winnings amounting to �405, after the 25-ton cutter 'Glance' with �542.
