CC-F-0086.T.jpg

An engraving and etching on chine coll̩ of the view of Westminster Abbey from across the Thames River on Lord Mayor's day, a day of pageantry where the Lord Mayor receives from the Lord Chancellor the assent of the Crown to his election. The procession begins with travel up the Thames in a procession of elaborate barges on the river and spectators watching from surrounding vessels. A flotilla of barges maneuvers in the river surrounded by spectators on small rowing boats.

Faintly lettered below the image on the left: "Painted by David Roberts R.A." On the right: "Engraved by Edward Goodall." The title and publication detail, which would have been printed below the image in the center, appears to be cut off. The collector, Arthur H. Clark, used this print from his collection to illustrate his book 'The History of Yachting, 1600-1815' (New York & London: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1904), 178.
