A port-broadside view of the paddle steamer 'Hindostan' of 1842. Run by the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O), she made regular passages between Southampton and Calcutta, and was the first steam auxiliary ship to run between the Suez Canal and Calcutta. The print depicts her first celebrated departure from Southampton in which warships were dressed and manned in her honor.
