Engraving depicting a naval battle between three pairs of ships; in each pair, one flies the British naval jack, and the other the (pre-Revolution) French flag. Clouds of smoke fill the air, and gaping holes from cannon fire adorn the sails of all vessels. In the lower margin, the artist attributions are printed, along with "The Gallant Action (Off the Isle of Man) where the Brave Captn. Elliot Defeated and took the Marshall Belleisle, Commanded by the famous Thurot. & two other french[uncapitalized in original] Ships of War, the 28 of February 1760. Pubd. as the Act directs. Sept 30, 1786."
