View of Greenwich Reach from the east, showing the embarkation of George IV in the 'Royal George' yacht for Edinburgh, 10 August 1822. Principal vessels accompanying the King are identified below the image: The Lord Mayor's Barge, the 'Royal George' flying the royal standard, the 'Royal Sovereign' (royal yacht) and the accompanying 'James Watt steam boat.' George IV was the first British monarch to visit Scotland for 171 years, since Charles II in 1651. The visit attracted great crowds. People in small rowing boats try to catch a glimpse of the King and bid him farewell. Large crowds are also visible on the dock.
