A view of the starboard side of the Spanish merchant schooner and slaver 'L'Antonio' on the Bonny River in Nigeria with other slavers or "black craft." The ships wait to board slaves for the slave trade. In the right foreground, a small rowboat is filled with slaves who are intimidated by a crewmember holding a whip. The National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London notes how despite "the tranquil atmosphere of this print, with the slavers pictured in still, glassy waters, belies the disturbing nature of the trade with which these vessels are associated."
