A port-side view of the paddle steamer 'Waterwitch' with a trail of dark gray smoke emitted from her smoke stack on deck. The aquatint appears to be trimmed. The top corners are cut rounded and the production detail on the engraver's name in the bottom right margin is cut off. The 'Waterwitch' was the first screw steamship built on the River Clyde in Scotland.

On the verso is a faint transfer imprint (or bleed-through) of crewmembers on a whaleboat and a harpooner attacking a whale.
