On August 14, 1803 the French privateer frigate 'Le Bellone,' under Captain Perroud, boarded and captured the large East Indiaman 'Lord Nelson.' The French privateer intercepted the British frigate on her homebound voyage off Cape Clear, Ireland. Chaos of smoke, men and guns are on the decks of the two frigates broadside-to-broadside (French in front and British behind). Despite the inferior broadside of the French privateer to that of 'Lord Nelson,' 'Bellone' had a crew of 260 men versus the 102 men (excluding passenger) of the British frigate on board. After 90 minutes of action, the 'Lord Nelson' succumbed to the French.
