The reparing of East India Merchant Ships by Dutch East Indiamen. The object features six men on a raft caulking the planks of the vessel's hull in the harbor while carpenters work on the deck. To right stands a fully fitted-out ship careened in the water, with sailors on a raft treating the under-water timber among clouds of black smoke.

Engraved on bottom left: "WHollar fecit 1647."
