AF-JX-0901.T.jpg

Hand-drawn ink sketch showing what is likely a Jonah and the Whale scene; figures are composed of interlocking circlicues and flourish patterns, with gradation of line thickness used to aid in rendering the image. There is an oval border; inside the border is a side view of a sea monster with a lionlike snout, and a long tail that coils around in a full circle before ending in a fluke. From the mouth of the monster ermerges a male figure, his face and torso in three-quarters view; he looks at the viewer and points upwards with his right hand. His lower parts seem to resemble a mermaid's tail, the end of which is visible through the sea monster's head.
