A view of the landing of King George IV at Leith Harbor on 15 August 1992. The artist has made it so that the viewer witnesses the landing from the shores of Leith and behind several soldiers who fire cannons for a salute with a large British flag planted in the ground beside them; one of the military officials wears a tartan kilt. This was the first time that a reigning monarch stepped foot on Scottish soil since Charles I in 1633, so a crowd of thousands came to witness the event. Men and women try to catch a glimpse of the king from various vessels in the harbor; others sit on the walls of the levee and quay.
