CC-R-0091.T.jpg

A halftone print of the ship portrait of the ex-American casemate ironclad, USS 'Dunderberg,' which was renamed Rochambeau. She resembled an enlarged, two-masted version of the Confederate casemate ironclad, CSS 'Virginia.' The ship was rejected by the Union Navy, but it was eventually sold to France under the interest of Napoleon III. She was renamed Rochambeau in honor of a French general during the American Revolution. The print is undated and is most likely a reproduction of a print lithographed and published by Endicott & Co., New York. However, the American flag in the Endicott print is changed to a French flag.
