Hand-colored print of a side view of a rorqual being attacked by harpooners on two whaleboats; a third whaleboat, at right, has been capsized and its crew are clinging to the wreck. The text describes the Rorqual species, beginning "The Rorqual is the largest of all Whales, and consequently of all animals now existing. It sometimes reaches the enormous length of eighty or even a hundred feet. Its food consists not only of the small animals on which the common whale subsists [...]".
