Plate 27 of 'Historia de la marina real espa̱ola episodios maritimos' lithographed by J. J. Martinez and others. The print depicts the later end of the Battle of Cape St. Vincent in the Anglo-Spanish War on January 16, 1780. The Spanish ship 'F̩nix' under Captain Juan Cayetano de Langara engaged with several British vessels for over an hour before it finally surrendered. With the ship dismasted and Langara injured, the Spanish crew was imprisoned on their vessel. In the print, the stern of battered 'F̩nix' is half engulfed in smoke amidst partly obscured British vessels. Two men cling onto debris in the foreground.
