The mapmaker William Berry (fl. 1669-1709) is sometimes known as the English Sanson for this publication of English copies of the maps by French cartographer (Nicolas or Guilliaume) Sanson. Relief is depicted pictorially. At the top are two cartouches. The cartouche to the left with whales and sea nymphs encloses the bar scales in Italian miles, common leagues of Germany, great leagues of Germany, and common leagues of France. The cartouche to the right is depicted as a vignette of various hunting activities. Berry dedicates the map "To the most serene and most sacred majty. James II."
