A later (fourth?) state of a 1626 map of America by John Speed. Decorative vignettes frame the map illustrating the dress of indigenous peoples on the right (top to bottom: Greenland, Virginia, Florida, Mexico, and New England) and left sides (top to bottom: Peru, Brazil, and Tierra del Fuego) and the cities of the Americas (left to right: Havana, Santo Domingo, Cartagena, Mexico City, Cuzco, the isle of Moca, Rio de Janeiro, and Olinda) on the top. The map is said to be the first atlas map to depict California as an island.

The map was most likely removed from Speed's 'A Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World' (London: 1676). The English text on the verso is obscured by the board mount, which appears to have been a recycled 'The New York Herald' poster.
