AF-MB-5029.T.jpg

Hand-colored, west-oriented map of the provinces of the Low Countries from John Speed's A Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World published in London. English text is on the verso, but it is covered by the backing paper. Along the right and left border, there are vignettes of the different types of costumes worn in the Low Countries. The left show the costumes of men and the right shows the costumes of women. On the top border are vignettes of major cities and provinces in the Low Countries: Amsterdam, Antwerp, Ghent, Middelburg, Gr̦ningen, Zutphen, Utrecht, Atrecht (now Arras, France).

The map includes a title cartouche, a cartouche with the distance scale information, and a cartouche that lists the cities and villages in every Province. Vessels and sea creatures dot the German Ocean or the North Sea.
