One of a set of seven plates of different types of naval vessels, the aquatint over etching depicts a two-masted ship with one row of cannons and a view of the starboard side. In the background is the rocky shoreline of the Bay of Boulogne in northern France. The Royal Navy raided the port of Boulogne 4 and 15-16 August 1801 in an effort to destroy a flotilla of French vessels that were believed to be the ships used for the invasion of England during the French Revolutionary Wars. The attack, led by Lord Horatio Nelson, was unsuccessful.
